Anchorage Taxicab Permits are not considered property
Jim Brennan who on Friday, November 14th, 2014 wrote an opinion piece which had no truth to back up his claims. First of all in order for taxicab permits to be property. Each permit must pay property tax. Since they do not this throw this idea out the window. This idea was already tried in 1980 in Spokane with no success I might add. Spokane City Council passed title 10 which cab drivers have been able to be owners of a permit. He represents at a very discounted rate since he was a failed city attorney during the Mark Begich administration the Anchorage Taxicab Permit Owner association. These permits are actually worth nothing they are over inflated. They lied in 2008 saying Uber is unsafe. That is not true and they do not want competition. They want to keep the quality of taxicab service in Anchorage. Anchorage customers have been waiting since 2001 for quality cab service. Is thirteen years long enough to wait. We have three bills currently in the Anchorage Assembly waiting for the Assembly to vote on. The mayor supports free enterprise and need to remove the unlawful cease and desist order that was unjustly done. He knocked on the door of Eric Musser after he corrupted him to do a cease and desist order. He was lucky the mayor was too busy wanting to be Lt Governor too take notice here. Jim if you believe each taxicab permit has value then provide a municipal property tax bill to prove it. Make your permit holders pay $1500 a year for each year the municipality they have owned the permit. Remember also most operator do not own their permits. Uber Alaska provides competition. Please admit that your permit have no value or show a municipal property tax bill.
