Alaska's department heads needs to accountable to the people

Alaska's department heads need to be held accountable to the people.  The best way for Alaska to do that is to be like most states.  Have the following departments have their department heads elected by the people.  This will require a ballot measure.  The legislature should never be involved in a changing Alaska's constitution.  Only citizens with the measure process.  The following heads need to be elected instead of appointed.  Secretary of State this would State Corporations, State Seal and Elections.  Lt. Governor should only supervise the legislature.  Attorney General should be elected.  This allow the state attorney to be an independent not accountable to the governor.  This also can help Alaska be more consumer friendly.  Superintendent of Alaska's Education this will allow the education chief to be accountable to the people not the governor's agenda.  Auditor this person will make sure state tax dollars are spent wisely and properly.  Commissioner of Public Lands this will give accountability to the people not bureaucrats in controlling Alaska's Fish and Game.  Having high elected department puts more accountability on public officials.  Please support more accountability by electing high department heads instead of appointing them.

Idaho's governor wants to continue state control of the liquor industry

Idaho governor Butch Otter believes the state can do a better job selling you liquor than a citizen. Plus this will give people more opportunities and places to purchase alcohol. The people of Idaho and myself supported you to save tax dollars and allow more freedoms to Idahoans. Keep your promise Butch allow privatization of Idaho state run liquor stores.

Students should not be socially promoted to the next grade

Public school students should not be socially promoted. If student does meet the standards then for the benefit of the child you have them repeat the grade. If they end up repeating the same three or more times then they need to attend a special school. We also need to end standardized testing. These tests do not benefit the students only the administrators, politicians and teacher unions. We are not preparing our students for the future with social promotion it does not prepare the student for college or the real world by doing this. We need not all students will be Rhodes scholars and prepare some for a trade.

If you would like to save a great outlet to helping Spokane's homeless

My friend Marty McKinney who runs Truth Ministries in Spokane needs donations of money, clothing and basic items.  You can drop off your donations at their location at 1910 E Sprague Ave at the corner of East Sprague Avenue and South Magnolia Street in East Central Spokane.  He and I nearly twenty years ago used to volunteer at City Gate Fellowship together in Downtown Spokane.  You can call them at (509) 456-2576 or e-mail them at truthmartyjulie@yahoo.com.  They help the homeless in Spokane and also provide a positive spiritual environment.

Seattle taxpayers money would be better spend without transportation advocate on payroll

Again Seattle's Premier Mike McGinn has once again decided to waste taxpayers buddies by hiring one of his bicycle buddies. You that $87,000 a year would be better spent creating either Downtown Seattle free parking space or creating a park. Even though this is not Communist Seattle's behavior how about return it to the taxpayer.

Anchorage needs a tougher law on alcohol sales to include bars

Last Tuesday May 24, 2011 the Anchorage Assembly approved an ordinance making that all liquor stores must request identification from patrons. The law did not go as far as the voters intended to have restaurant and bars request identification from customers. The Anchorage Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant and Retailers objected to mandatory identification checks and do not care about the customers which is not a surprise when in 2010 they chose to no longer use taxis for their off the road instead use limos which is more expensive to the taxpayer. They also strong armed the assembly to water down the ordinance. Please your assembly you want the law tougher.

If a federal agency makes a mistake then they should forgive the amount owed

If a federal employees make a mistake and the person receiving the services did not give them misinformation then. The agency needs to forgive the amount owed. If a private business makes an accounting error that is in the customers favor and charges a customer less than what it actually cost the company. The business can not go back to the customer and say well you that job we did for you. We charged you less than what it cost we need to charge you more after the job is completed already. If the agency miscalculated or made a mistake in approving a claim they were not supposed to. Then the agency must eat that mistake then learn not to do it again. They can not make the claimant pay for their mistake. This also goes for county, borough, city and state agencies as well. The government makes a mistake then the government pays the exception is if the claimant did not provide accurate information or lied. Then the claimant must pay it back because that is fraud when you lie about a situation. If the claimant uses the money not for the purpose of the government loan then they must pay it back with interest.

Alaska's organized boroughs should be required to form their own police Department

All of Alaska's organized boroughs do not have their own police protection. They must contract with the Alaska State Troopers to provide police protection outside of an incorporated city. Only Anchorage, Juneau and Sitka have borough wide protection due to charters. Boroughs such as the Kenai Peninsula and Matanuska Susitna Borough should be required to form their own police force. This will allowed residents outside of cities like Kenai, Homer, Seward, Soldotna, Wasilla and Palmer better police protection. This also frees up resources from the Alaska State Troopers they should only be patrolling major highways that have a big dipper on them only assist the borough police departments when asked. They also should be patrolling the Alaska Marine Highway and nothing else. This also gets the locals more involvement with the police protection in their own community. We also need to replace the Village Public Safety officer program with someone who is actually chosen by the village to be the officer. The Alaska villages are more likely to respect their own kind instead an appoint from a community not of their culture and tradition. If this requires a constitutional change in the Alaska State Constitution then that is what we need.

Alaska Native Non profit corporations should be in complete control of government benefits to their tribal members

Back in 1996 I received a letter from the late Alaska US Senator Ted Stevens.  He suggested that Alaska Native non profit corporations should administer all government benefits.  Most US Senators have decided that tribes should not be able to administer.  Let's honor the late Alaska US Senator Ted Stevens and adopt this idea.  They can include the government assistance with the tribal shareholder payouts.  Alaskan native people can better decide what their members then some bureaucrat in Washington, DC. Please call your US Senator and say you want the Ted Stevens Alaska Native Benefits Responsibility act.  The government benefits would only go to the 13 regional Alaska Native Corporations who would decide to administer them themselves or would delegate that to native corporations in their jurisdiction.

Example I have a Alaskan native father figure who is a shareholder of Akhiok-Kaguyak Incorporated how his regional native corporation is Koniag.  Koniag has contracted the Kodiak Area Native Association to deal with Kodiak Island tribal benefits.  He would go to Kodiak Area Native Association to apply for government benefits.  This will allow Alaska tribes to dictate the social welfare needs of their people.

Municipalities need to be like Singapore and fine jaywalkers harshly

Here is a picture of someone riding a bicycle on Benson Blvd in Midtown Anchorage that is not an authorized crossing.

City Councils, Borough Assemblies, County commissioners need to make fines harsh like in Singapore for jaywalking. Jaywalking for those not familiar with this term. When a person crosses a street at a place not a crosswalk.

Recently here in Anchorage we had a teenager boy who was killed at an unauthorized crossing at Debarr and Patterson. No crosswalk was present at the Intersection. His friend told him not to cross. He ignored his friends warning. No traffic signal would have prevented this tragedy. Please do not suggest one or I will stand up and suggest a traffic circle to end this debate.

Here is how you can do the following to penalize jaywalkers.

First offense can be a written or a verbal warning can be at the discretion of the officer.

Second offense $500 this is what they do in Singapore. Jaywalking has dropped dramatically. They also cane their citizens. I do not suggest this.

Driving with your headlights on your headlights on all the time increase the awareness of vehicle regardless of season.

Alaskans have a tendency not to drive with headlights on in the summer due to long daylight. This will increase your visibility for other vehicles to see you and pedestrians know you are coming.

Moral of this article is even if it is an easier to cross a busy street does not mean it is right. Plus most insurance when they find that you cross the street unmarked crossing. They will deny your claim and you are paying 100 percent of your medical bill this includes if you are a client of Medicare and Medicaid. These taxpayer funded things like Medicare and Medicaid are insurance companies they do deny claims. Something your caseworker will not tell you.

Currently here in Alaska, Oregon and home state of Washington there is no penalty for jaywalking. Police have no authority to issue a ticket unless a jurisdiction has it on the books.

Starbucks needs to purchase McDonald's Corporation

Here is a picture of the McDonald's on Debarr Rd in East Anchorage

Hey Pike Place Market executives in Seattle. Starbucks the most successful coffee place in America needs to purchase McDonald's. These two great business should be in one corporation. The people of McDonald's can teach the Starbucks to make fries and Starbucks can teach the workers how to make coffee. Plus your competitor Seattle's Best Coffee needs to go out of business. The workers would dress in Starbucks attire. Please Starbucks pay attention to this blog and do this idea thank you the American fast food customer.
