University of Alaska needs to accept the restructure agreed to by the Governor

Recently the Governor and the University came to understanding that a restructure is necessary to keep the University functioning that way it is suppose to.

The best way to reduce administration cost that can be done by having only having two campuses where the administration would be anchored at.  Both UAF and UAA will continue their campus identities.  Seawolves and Nanooks.  Fairbanks would be north administration and Anchorage would be south administration.  UAS would be downgraded to Juneau Community College due to population of the region and enrollment.  All the community colleges in Valdez, Kenai Peninsula, Mat-Su College, Kodiak College as well as Juneau the newest community college students will have the option to take university class at their campus or take their classes online through a computer.  Other places will also have the option of taking classes online through the two universities in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Sports Teams

The south and north campus will have their sports teams no need to consolidate these in any way.  Most athletic programs are self sufficient and can pay for themselves.

Reducing or selling buildings on each campus

This can get complicated because some of these buildings are monthly endowments to the University of Alaska.  Example the Alaska Airlines Center.  Alaska Airlines pays UAA money each month to keep their name on that building.  Sell that building you lose that endowment.  Endowments are another way colleges and universities make income this income can help a college survive over public funding.

Consolidated administrations work my Alumni the Community Colleges of Spokane has been doing it between two local community colleges since 1968 between two campus Spokane Falls Community College and Spokane Community College it has worked very well.  They only have one sports team called the Sasquatch.  Spokane Falls is west administration and Spokane Community is east administration.  Main office is on Greene Street.

This restructure will help the university and keep it functioning for future generations

Businesses should not pay to transport drunk people in Fairbanks

Downtown Fairbanks businesses are the victims of the drunk people causing a problem at their business.  Why should they pay for it when they did not cause the problem.  Fairbanks officials should charge non profits instead for the city transporting the drunks to their locations.  That would like asking a rape victim to pay for the services of their rapist.  Please tell Fairbanks officials to charge the non profits not the businesses for drunk people removal.

Laddie Shaw parachutes his way to the State Senate

Recently last Friday, August 30th, 2019 Governor Mike Dunleavy choose current representative Laddie Shaw to fill the late Senator Chris Birch's seat.  This is a good choice his values fit the district well.  This may change the way the senate thinks about the issues like the permanent fund dividend and taxes.  Giessel lead senate has one less person on the side of massive government.  Next session as Laddie parachutes himself into the senate chambers.
