Schools need to have more secure procedures before releasing children to parents during the day

A lot of kidnapping cases are happening more due to the fact most families are now raised in single parent homes.  Sometimes parents use children as pawns in getting back at each other.  The children suffer because.  First I want to applaud the Beacon Hill Elementary School in Kelso north of Portland for looking out for the welfare of kids first.  If a child needs to be released from school then the parent should notify the administrators by e-mail and receive a conformation that the request has been granted before they can be released.  This should also include child protective service caseworkers as well.  The exception should be law enforcement unless they have a child protective service caseworkers with them then a parent should be present during inquiry so the story can not be twisted by the caseworker.  Child Protective Service caseworkers goals are to tear families apart.

  1. Mark, I must correct you when you say that the goal of a CPS worker is to tear families apart. Having worked directly with them as a foster parent, I can't begin to tell you the amount of work and effort they put into keeping children with their parents. And if they are unable to remain safely with their parents, they try to place them with other family members.

In fact, there are times when they try so hard to keep families together that it is more damaging to the child than anything else. Only as a last resort will they adopt children out to non-family homes.

The little girl who lived with me last year had a hard life and they spent years trying to make things work with her parents. In the end, they couldn't. She was lucky to have family 3,000 miles away who would take her in. But even though she's not living with her parents, CPS made certain that she would always have contact with them--visits, phone calls, etc. Not all children are that blessed.
